apple butter!

I finally finished making the screenprints for this year's batch of apple butter. The neon colors were inspired by a Leif Goldberg print that I have. The prints are actually only 3 transparent colors -- blue, yellow, and pink -- but my overlapping them, I was able to make orange, purple, green, and a brown-ish color. I am pretty stoked about the finished product!

canning done!

I have finished canning all of the apple butter!  There are 54 half-pint jars and 2 pints.  Now I have to finish the prints for the lids!

charlottesville represent!

A couple of days ago James McNew played in NYC with Asuna, and there was a little bit of Charlottesville decorating the merch table. (Victoria's power diamond and a very little cosmic quilt painting by yours truly!)

craft fair time!

I have a couple of older (cheap!) prints and some new hand-painted sketchbooks available at the Great Gifts Holiday Shop this year. Great Gifts will be open all December from 12-8pm on weekdays and 12-6pm on weekends through Christmas Eve. There is some great stuff over there, so make sure to check it out! I will be bringing more stuff to the shop as the month goes on.

pigeon!

November has been a month of finishing up big projects. I helped Greg Kelly with his book project called Pigeon. I just helped design/print the packaging, but it was a pretty large edition. The whole project turned out beautifully and I am so happy to have participated in it's completion.

I also have been working on cooking down all that applesauce into apple butter! There is going to be a huge amount -- more than double what I made last year. I will post pictures when I finish making the prints for the lids.

new city arts group show!

I have some work in a group show at the NPR gallery this month! The show has 11 participating artists exhibiting works generated from the theme of a "Home." It is a preview for The Haven's annual auction in December, and all proceeds from the exhibit will benefit The Haven at First and Market.
Stop by on Friday between 5 and 7 if you are in town!

applesauce!

Vicky and I made 32+ quarts!

It was amazing how all the different varieties of apples changed the color of the sauce from batch to batch.  This last picture is kind of bad but it shows the variation really well. Cool!

missing!

I recently finished a small summer art class with some awesome kids and tomorrow marks the unveiling of a play we made together! It is called "MISSING!" and it will be performed for a small audience.

The play opens with three mystery-solving friends finding out that some of their friends and family have gone missing! With the help of some talking dolphins, they discover a villain and a machine that turns people into other people’s worst fears! Will they be able to stop the villain before it’s too late?

Here are some images from the program, with artwork courtesy of Willow and Gwen.

picture time!

I have one photo of the piece from the show in Richmond. It's nice, but it doesn't show the colors really well and you can't see the fancy shelf. But until I find another, here it is!

richmond!

I finished a canned food color spectrum for an art show in Richmond that opened on Friday. It sits on a fancy shelf and includes a jar of blue cabbage juice! Finally all of Roy G. Biv is represented. I will post a picture of it soon. I also made it to Richmond yesterday to present a workshop with Victoria at the Richmond Zine Fest! It was well attended and super fun. Hope to make it back to Richmond soon.

I went pawpaw picking a while back and it was awesome! Hannah, Claire and I made a pawpaw cake. It was so decadent and delicious -- too decadent?

better late than never!

I finally got some seeds and starts planted in the house garden at the end of last week. I am hoping that this cold snap doesn't stick around so that everything has a chance to grow. At least I am not too late to plant garlic! I'll plant that in the first bed in about a month. Whatever happens, it's nice to finally have stuff in the ground at the new place.

more invites!

So, I said I would be taking a hiatus from wedding invites and then I immediately agreed to another job. How could I resist -- Matt and Liz are so awesome! It was fun to work with them and make it happen. Thanks to Abby Pratt, who did the calligraphy that I then letterpress printed for the final product. She also hand addressed the front of every envelope!

lots of projects!

Lots of things are picking up for what looks like a super productive late-summer burst!  Last night, Victoria and I made some chamomile honey ground cherry preserves. They are a great color, and they taste great too!  Thanks to A and J for the fruit! I am excited to add a jar or two to the next color spectrum piece.

Thanks to K-Dawg Smith, we got to do some public art the other night! It needs a few touch ups, but here is what we made.
